Tim Shimeall
CERT Division - SEI/CMU Principal Engineer
The only person to make 20 consecutive appearances at FloCon, Tim Shimeall is the Principle Engineer on the Situational Awareness Team of the CERT Program at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). Shimeall is responsible for the development of methods to support decision making in security at and above the enterprise level, including identification of useful data collection. Tim’s work is highly empirical and often involves application of formal methods to practical problems facing network security and operational personnel.
Before joining the SEI, Shimeall was an associate professor at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Tim has taught courses for a variety of educational institutions and private corporations, in local, remote, and hybrid formats. He has supervised more than 35 MS theses and more than 15 doctoral dissertations.
Tim earned a Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Irvine. He has subsequently published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and numerous technical reports and notes.
